Every pool should have a solar cover for summer use. The solar cover provides not only protection from debris getting into the pool but helps to create heat to the water. A solar cover can raise the temperature of your pool water up to 10 degrees on sunny days. It transfers the heat from the sun into the pool helping to warm your pool and then blankets the pool to assist keeping the heat in. Solar covers are especially important to any pool that uses a heater. It will trap the heat at night and keep the pool warm for the next days use. There are three main styles of solar covers on the market today. The 8 mil cover is usually blue on top and bottom and a lighter weight, thinner cover. It does the job while being light enough to manage. The 12 mil cover is probably the most popular cover being blue on the top side and silver on the bottom and a little heavier thickness. It is more durable than the 8 mil cover and the silver provides a reflective surface to keep the heat in the pool better. The 16 mil cover is clear, allowing more rays to penetrate into the pool, and is the thickest and heaviest cover on the market. The choice is yours, but choosing one will guarantee a cleaner and warmer pool all summer long.
